Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested three persons for alleged selling of cooking gas in a residential building.
Briefing newsman in Lafia, the Nasarawa State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr Mahmoud Fari said the arrest of the suspects followed a tip-off by the Department of Petroleum Resources DPR.
There was pandemonium at Maina Estate in Bukan Sidi, along Jos road in Lafia metropolis, Nasarawa State following the smell of cooking gas that filled the air due to a leakage at a residential building in the area.
Most of the residents of Maina Estate fled from their homes for fear of explosion as a result of the gas leakage.
Chief Fire Service Officer, Nasarawa State, Alhaji Dalhatu Dogara said the attention of the service was drawn by distress calls from residents on a gas leakage.
He alleged that the owner of the house used for the illegal gas sales was also the owner of the gas plant that exploded in 2018 killing over 30 people.
Controller of the Department of Petroleum Resources DPR, Lafia office, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Muhammad called on residents to report any unauthorized gas selling outlet to the appropriate channel for prompt action.
An eye witness whose house is beside the resident where the gas was sold commended the fire service for their swift response.

At the time of filing this report, officers from the DPR and security personnel were evacuating the over 150 gas cylinders from the house.
