A gran who moved her toyboy fiancé into her home after a week of dating has revealed how she lost friends and was told she ‘needed therapy’.
Pam Shasteen, 60, was left devastated by the reaction to husband-to-be Jonathan Langevin who at 21 is 39 years her junior.
The besotted couple from Tulsa, Oklahoma, US, have ignored scathing comments about their relationship including cruel jibes that Jonathan is young enough to be Pam’s son.
She told Sun Online : “Jonathan is the love of my life and I don’t care what anyone thinks.”
Pam said Jonathan had his age as 21 on his bio but when she met him ‘he didn’t look at day over 20’ but she was undeterred as she had always fancied younger guys since she was in her 30s.
As they talked they discovered they both loved astrology and the outdoors before Jonathan dropped a bombshell that he was actually 19.
Pam said the revelation left her hesitant as she was a gran with two daughters aged 32 and 34 but Jonathan reassured her he wanted to be with an older woman.
After their first date the pair video-chatted every day as Jonathan lived 900 miles away in Minnesota but a week later he travelled to meet Pam they realised they were falling in love.
The couple went on a sightseeing date and Pam said they received dirty looks from strangers and she overheard a woman telling her friend they were ‘disgusting’ which upset her.
“Thankfully, Jonathan didn’t mind and when we got home, we laughed it off,” she said.
The following night they slept together for the first time and a week later when it was time for Jonathan to go home Pam realised she was in love with him and begged him to stay.
Pam invited her daughters over to meet her new live-in boyfriend the following day who she said looked ‘so shocked’ when they saw his ‘baby face’.
Jonathan broke the news to his parents, who are both in their 60s, shortly after but according to Pam they weren’t surprised as they knew their son ‘had a thing’ for older women.
However when Pam excitedly introduced Jonathan to her best friends of 30 years they weren’t so welcoming about the relationship.
Pam said she hoped they would be happy for her but instead they were cold towards Jonathan and a few days later told her he was young enough to be her grandson and she needed therapy.
She said their reaction hurt so she cut them out of her life as she ‘didn’t need that kind of negativity’.
After three months Jonathan proposed to Pam and they travelled to Minnesota to celebrate their engagement with his family.
Since then Pam has become friends with her fiancé’s parents and her grandson Ezra calls him ‘grandpa Jon’.
Pam said: “I’m so happy I took a chance with Jonathan. Although I lost some friends on the way, I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.”
