An 8-months pregnant woman Zainab Aliyu Balarabe has died after she was bitten by snake when she went to the toilet.
She was reported to have been bitten by a snake inside WC toilet at their residence at Kinkinau GRA, Kaduna State according to a tweet by a social media user Usman Ahmad Nuraini on his twitter handle (@Zun_Noorayne).
In an exclusive interview with naijamode.com, Nairaini narrated that after the bite they took her to Kinkinau Clinic (closest private hospital) where they gave her an injection called Lidocane as she was rejected at Biba Hospital, due to claims that they don’t have the injection.
“From there they headed to 44 army hospital, anti-natal, where she was rejected because she doesn’t do her anti-natal there. They where then directed to A & E Hospital where they were kept waiting for almost 10 minutes, while the hospital officials were discussing within themselves and then later they said they cant do anything they should go to the Nursing home.
“After that, they left for NNPC clinic at sabo kaduna, it took them a while to arrive, as the Nnamdi Azikwe Express road is in terrible conditions. On getting there they didn’t waste time they accepted them making efforts to save her, but it was too late.”
Her husband, Aliyu Ahmed told newsmen that he heard Zainab crying that ‘snake bit her while trying to ease herself. She said she couldn’t see the snake.’
Aliyu however expressed surprises of how snake could enter his house as the whole house is interlocked but he advised people to always flush their toilets with hot water in case snakes are inside.
Usman Ahmad Nuraini who is a photographer now champion campaigns against snake bite on his twitter handle (@Zun_Noorayne) lamented on the hospitals for not having antivenom, adding that one of the hospitals claimed that people hardly use the antivenom so they stop buying it because it expires.
