The Italian man who tested positive for the coronavirus disease is recovering well and may soon be discharged, Naija Mode understands.
It will be recalled Nigeria recorded its index coronavirus case on Friday, 28th February as the Federal Ministry of Health confirmed the case in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city.
Naija Mode reports that minister of health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, confirmed the case in a statement issued in the early hours of Friday, February 28, 2020, saying that the case involves an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and just returned from Milan, Italy on the 25th of February 2020.
This online news platform understands that the statement said the Italian was confirmed to be positive by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The man had been quarantined at the isolation centre in Yaba, Lagos State where he had been receiving treatment and recovering.
However, on Friday, 6th March, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state hinted that the man may soon be discharged after recovering well from the disease.
The governor was quoted by Daily Post to have said this when he played host to the management team of Lafarge PLC (where the Italian works), led by its Country Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Khaleed El Dokani, in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Friday.
A statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, noted that Governor Abiodun commended the organization for being pro-active upon discovering the man’s infection and also promised the government’s support to the industrialization drive in the state.
He said: “For us, the virus is a serious one and an issue that is in the front burner. We will not lower our guard, particularly due to the fact that we have large number of industries and expatriates here. We are enjoying a lot of supports from the World Health Organization and the National Centre for Disease Control. We are going ahead to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.”
”I hear the index patient is doing very well and will be discharged soon,” he added.
