News of Presidnet Buhari granting Maryam Sanda a presidential pardon is FAKE

News of granting Maryam Sanda,  the woman convicted and sentenced to death by hanging for killing her husband, had been granted a Presidential pardon is currently trending on social media.

The news came after it was announced that President Muhammadu Buhari, granted pardon to five inmates and clemency to another 2,593 prisoners.

Many Nigerians took to twitter to kick against her release, but the truth is Maryam was never granted a Presidential pardon and still in prison.

She was on January 27, sentenced to death by an FCT High Court, for killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.

But now, the Personal Assistant on New Media to the President Bashir Ahmad has debunked the news saying;

”The news making the rounds that Maryam Sanda, a murder convict, was granted presidential pardon is FAKE, very unrealistic and an attempt to rubbish the good intention of President Buhari towards decongesting the custodial centres, National Correctional Service says in a statement.”

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have also said Sanda is still in custody.
