Pregnant woman with coronavirus wakes to find out she has put to bed while in coma

A mum with coronavirus has woken up from an induced coma to discover she’s given birth.

Angela Primachenko, from Vancouver, Washington, was left fighting for her life after being struck down by Covid-19 and had to put on a ventilator when she was 33 weeks pregnant.

The 27-year-old, who works as a respiratory therapist, started displaying symptoms including fever and tested positive on March 24.

Within eight days, her symptoms had escalated and she was put into a coma at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center.

Angela’s doctors then decided to induce labour to save both her and her unborn child.

Speaking on the Today show, Angela said: “Obviously nobody expected that I was going to get that sick, so no, absolutely not, I did not expect to deliver my child.

“After all the medication and everything I just woke up and all of a sudden I didn’t have my belly any more. It was just extremely mind-blowing.”

Angela, who is also mum to daughter Emily, 11 months, hasn’t been able to hold her newborn daughter Ava as she remains in the ICU.

The new mum was released from hospital on Saturday but can’t see her baby until she tests negative.

Thankfully her daughter Ava has tested negative for Covid-19.

Angela said medical staff lined the halls and gave a standing ovation as she was wheeled out of the ICU.

“I feel like I’m a miracle walking,” she said.

A fundraiser for Angela and her family has raised almost $50,000.
