Twitter users have been wildly sharing what they have dubbed “criminally hot” mugshots of women who have fallen foul of the law.
A hugely popular account on the social media site is dedicated to tweeting images of attractive arrested women, with the man behind the account even claiming some ladies beg him to post their pics.
The creator of the account called ‘Mugshawtys’, Josh Jeffrey, 24, told the New York Post: “A lot of people send me their own mugshots – I get probably 15 to 20 plus [direct messages] a day of different ones.
“A lot of what I post is submissions.”
The 24-year-old thinks a lot of women want to be featured to boost their profiles as many ask him to include their Twitter handles.
“They definitely want some kind of exposure,” he added.
However, some simply want him to add a link to a crowdfunding page in the hope they can raise bail money and get out of whatever prison they’re being held in.
And if a lady is unhappy with being featured, Josh says he’s more than happy to take down an image, explaining: “If there’s anybody that doesn’t want their picture on there, I take it down with no questions asked.
“I don’t put information out there if the [women] don’t want it.”
But he admits he has received some backlash, with some users claiming it glamourises crime.
“I get random people all the time sayin’ ‘oh, this isn’t right.’ I can see where they’re coming from,” he said.
“When I first started, I was going through these databases and doing all the work myself, copy and pasting everything.”
Josh thinks another upside of his social media hobby is that he has learned a lot about what he perceives as unfairness in the US justice system.
“Our justice system is a joke,” he said, referencing how some women are booked for relatively minor violations such as possession of cannabis.
“I think the US is the only country where there’s a public mugshot database. I’ve posted some international mugshots, too, but every one of those the person sent me.”
And having a mugshot go viral can sometimes completely transform your life.
